Road closure - Barron Gorge Road, Caravonica
To provide safer, long-term access for vehicles and pedestrians, Council will be constructing a rock fall protection barrier along a section of Barron Gorge Road.
The 80m barrier will be installed approximately 1km east of the power station car park. This is where the road passes a steep rocky slope where poor soil and rock stability has led to rock falls.
Works are programmed to start on 20 August 2012. During this time for safety requirements Barron Gorge Road will be closed to the general public (motorists, cyclists and pedestrians) from the location of works to the power station. A vehicle turn around area is provided before the work site however large vehicles and buses should not proceed further than the designated turn around just past the residential area.
Works are expected to be complete in November 2012, weather permitting. As the project progresses, it is anticipated that nightworks until 11pm may also be undertaken.
