02 Aug 2012

Artists in the Cairns region are encouraged to apply for a share in the next round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

Applications are now being accepted for the first of two funding rounds for 2012-2013.

RADF is a partnership between the Cairns Regional Council an the State Government to support the development of quality art and arts practice in the region.

Mayor Bob Manning said about $80,000 was available in this funding round for projects that met the program’s criteria.

“The program supports professional artists and artsworkers and projects that encourage cultural development and community involvement,” Cr Manning said.

“RADF helps to get worthwhile projects off the ground – projects that have provided professional development for our region’s talented artists and that have benefitted our community.”

Projects that have previously received funding include community theatre projects, environmental art installations, musical workshops, historical archiving and documentation, dance industry development and cultural tourism initiatives, among others.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Council’s RADF Liaison Officer at l.hart@cairns.qld.gov.au or phone 4032 6644 to request an application kit and to arrange a meeting, if required. The closing date for applications is 7 September 2012.
