Musical feast to celebrate peace

All eyes will be on Cairns Esplanade this Friday when a concert celebrating the International Day of Peace is beamed live across the world.

The free RUTHLESS Youth for Peace Concert will feature The Voice finalist Brittany Cairns, along with a host of local, national and international musical talent.

Organised by Cairns Regional Council in conjunction with Headspace Cairns, the concert will be part of an international series of concerts, with other host cities including Paris, New York and London.

Mayor Bob Manning said he hoped Cairns would put on a warm welcome for the city’s namesake performer and her fellow visiting artists.

“There will be about 20 acts taking the stage and we want every one of them to have a great experience here in Cairns,” Cr Manning said.

“This will not only be a chance to see a host of quality visiting performers for free, but it’s an opportunity for our local musicians to get invaluable local and international exposure.

“It would be great to see a huge crowd cheering them on and showing the world what a great time we are having here in Cairns.

“A camera will capture all the action and stream it live via www.peaceday.tv. If you can’t be there on the day, you can tune in and be part of an estimated 1.6 million viewer audience.”

Brittany Cairns will be joined by popular Gold Coast band The Winnie Coopers, Melbourne’s Rudely Interrupted, New Zealand band Nesian Mystik, Triple J Unearthed artists Jordan Oliver and Ray Danes, local bands Phoenix Rising, Liquid Valentine, Saving Summer, DJ Soul Train and many more.

Cairns is the only city in Australasia to host a concert and will open a three-day international musical feast celebrating the International Day of Peace.

The concert kicks off at 1pm on the Eastern Lawn of the Cairns Esplanade (between the Lagoon and The Pier Shopping Centre) and continues until 10pm.

In a true celebration of youth and international friendship, it will open with an official welcome to 350 international students and the launch of an online guide to living and studying in Cairns.

It is a free, all ages event and all are welcome to attend.
