NAIDOC Week brings Dreamtime to libraries
Cairns Regional Council will celebrate NAIDOC Week with special Storytime sessions at libraries this week.
Gordonvale (Tuesday), Manunda (Wednesday) and Mossman (Thursday) Libraries will feature Dreaming Stories at their 10.30am Storytime sessions, celebrating Australia’s indigenous culture.
Other libraries will carry on the theme during their Storytime sessions throughout the month.
This Friday, Cairns Regional Council will take part in the NAIDOC Family Day in the Park at Fogarty Park.
The Council stall will highlight Cairns Libraries and the National Year of Reading and include Storytime at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Mayor Bob Manning said the event would provide information on government and community services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
“It is also a showcase of indigenous culture, with traditional and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entertainment,” Cr Manning said.
“Families are invited to come along to the Council stall to listen to Dreaming Stories and learn about our library services.
For those who have not yet had the opportunity to explore their local library, introductory library tours will be held throughout July at Earlville, Manunda and Mossman Libraries.
“These tours will showcase the many library services and facilities available to the community,” Cr Manning said.
