Snap a wordy photo to win an iPad
Words and pictures will combine to celebrate the Cairns region’s love of reading.
As part of the National Year of Reading, Cairns Regional Council and Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE are inviting reading enthusiasts to try their hands at photography for the chance to win an iPad 3rd generation.
The Live it, love it, learn it … snap it! photographic competition is now open to all library members.
“A book can take you anywhere… and you can take a book anywhere,” Mayor Bob Manning said.
“By snapping a photo of yourself or a friend reading a book in the park, on the bus, at home, at school – anywhere – you could win an iPad 3rd generation or one of two e-readers.
“We want to see photos of people reading anywhere, anytime – the more creative the better.
“If you’re not a library member and you want to enter the competition, simply join up – it’s free.”
National Year of Reading 2012 is a year-long campaign aimed to encourage a love of reading and libraries across Australia.
According to the 2006 Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (Australian Bureau of Statistics), nearly half the Australian population struggles with basic literacy skills.
Both Cairns Libraries and Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE have endorsed the aims of the National Year of Reading, with the libraries hosting various events throughout the year to highway the benefits of reading.
“Tropical North Queensland TAFE is thrilled to be a joint sponsor of this competition, as it highlights the message that reading can be fun, can be done anywhere and broadens the mind,” said Donna-Maree O’Connor, Deputy Institute Director and one of 21 Reading Champions across the Cairns region.
Further information on National Year of Reading and entry forms for the Live it, love it, learn it … snap it! photographic competition are available on the Cairns Libraries website.
Entries close on Friday, August 31.
