Council puts its heart into festival parade
Cairns Regional Council has called on its animal friends to help spread some Cairns Festival cheer.
Croak Daddy, Dewey the Cairns Libraries Frog, Reggie the Dog and Boots the Cat will join with Cairns Regional Council staff on a float at this Saturday’s Cairns Festival Overflow FNQ Grand Parade.
A team of more than 30 staff members, plus some extra “talent” will take part in the parade, which starts at 5.30pm.
Acting CEO Peter Tabulo – who will be participating in the parade – said it was great to see Council staff supporting a wonderful community event.
“Cairns Regional Council is made up of local people serving locals,” Mr Tabulo said.
“Council is the heart of the community and that will be the theme of our float.”
Mayor Bob Manning said he was pleased to see a Council float taking part, after recent absences from the parade.
“We put on Cairns Festival to celebrate everything that is great about the Cairns Region,” Cr Manning said.
“The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Living the Dream’, and that is exactly what we are doing up here.
“We are proud to bring you Cairns Festival. We are even more proud to be a part of it.”
The Cairns Festival Overflow FNQ Grand Parade will travel along the Cairns Esplanade, featuring more than 50 floats.
Road closures and changed traffic conditions will apply.
