Council to seek waterfront funding
Cairns Regional Council has highlighted the need to attract both State and Federal funding in order to further progress implementation of the Port Douglas Waterfront Master Plan.
At today’s meeting in Mossman, Council voted to note the status of the project, while stating that implementation was a high priority.
Mayor Bob Manning said Council needed to work with other tiers of government to ensure that major elements of the master plan went ahead.
“Council has many priorities and this is right at the top,” Cr Manning said. “But, without the money, we’re going nowhere.
“So our priority is now to seek out funding opportunities through the State and Federal governments and we need to remain flexible to allow the best chance of success.”
As the first act of master plan implementation, buildings along the waterfront have recently been demolished and will be transformed into open public parkland during the next two months.
