Skate Park and BMX Strategy

Cairns Regional Council is finalising its Skate Park and BMX Strategy, which is expected to be tabled later this month.

The objective of the document is to provide strategic direction on the appropriate location, development, management, maintenance and activation of new and existing skate and BMX facilities in the region.

The Strategy will also build awareness of skate, BMX and related activities as legitimate, positive recreational activities and will encourage positive perceptions of youth, skate and BMX facilities and their user groups.

Regional Gallery Air-Conditioning

Tenders have been called for the installation of an upgraded air-conditioning system at the Cairns Regional Gallery.

The tender is expected to be awarded by Council next month and installation to start early 2013.

Chinese New Year Festival Support

The Community Services Committee has recommended ongoing financial support for the Cairns and District Chinese Association Inc to assist the facilitation of the annual Chinese New Year Festival.

The Community Services Committee has agreed to allocate $20,000 a year for three years. This follows previous funding agreements and one-off grants.
