City to welcome babies to region

Cairns Regional Council will celebrate the arrival of the tiniest and newest residents at a special reception this Sunday.

The lawn north of Muddy’s Playground will be transformed for the fourth annual Cairns Regional Council Baby Welcome Ceremony and Family Expo,  with free family entertainment, circus workshops, jumping castles, face painting, refreshments and more than 30 trade stalls including personal care products, baby products and childcare services.

Cairns Mayoress Claire Manning will welcome babies born in the past year at the event, with each baby and their family to be presented with a special certificate.

“The ceremony will honour the important role both parents and the community have towards babies and children,” Mrs Manning said.

“All of the community has a role and responsibility in raising our future generations.

"Our future is in the tiny hands of our community’s youngest and this is a celebratory ceremony filled with hope and good will.”

Mrs Manning will welcome more than 100 babies this year. A tree for each child will be planted at the Cattana Wetlands in a specially designated section at a later date.
